Meeting Notes:
Layne spoke of the club name change from NAEP to ECO and making new shirts from the old NAEP shirts (which are currently on sale for $5). Corina talked about events like shirt making, potluck, and clothing swap to socialize and build more group unity. We have an extensive river clean up approaching in March. Corina mentioned the need for volunteers for the Green Living Showcase. On the topic of the Research Symposium she mentioned that anyone can present and/or observe. She talked about Earth Day in the Quad and added that it was our big event, and that we might team up with the Farmer’s Market for it. Corina also encouraged members to go to the Geography Alumni and Student Celebration because of all the fun she has had attending. Layne introduced new officers- CO-VPs Maia Holmes and Elle Minter, PR Secretary Hope Shimek, Website Manager Will Lippold, and the devilishly good looking Administrative Secretary Tom Gleason. Then Layne got back to business saying the Farmer’s Market in the Quad has been postponed until the 16th due to weather. Meeting are the 1st and 3rd Tuesday of every month with the exception of spring break. Layne pledged to watch over the preservation of members lives on the camping trip and boasted about hauling slabs of granite up and down Enchanted Rock while doing conservation work on one group trip. Corina took the floor and mentioned the idea of having meetings outdoor which seemed to be a unanimously popular idea. Layne then spoke of the ESC and offered the opportunity for people to submit ideas, and then he introduced the meeting’s guest speakers: Elle and Maia. Elle came to speak on behalf of Bobcat Blend a composting and waste residuals management group on campus created by the ESC. Elle was looking for volunteers to help educate the student body about the importance of composting. Maia Holmes was the next speaker, she came to promote her new organization WaterAid. Maia is the president and founder of Texas State’s WaterAid chapter. Maia talked about the international organization and what they are all about and WaterAid’s 3 part program of teaching communities in developing countries how to build wells using the materials found in that community, hygiene education, and sanitation infrastructure. Maia then spoke of all the exciting upcoming WaterAid events and fundraisers. She told those who were interested to come to the WaterAid meeting Thursday at 5pm in ELA 311, and told them to look for the group on Facebook. Layne and Corina then got up and invited all interested members to run for the open Treasurer position, and stated elections would be held at the next meeting. After that the meeting was adjourned.
