GEO 4427 Spring 2025 - About Us

Meet the Students

Student 1

Avery Bouskila

Current senior at Texas State University studying Geography, Natural Resources, and Environmental Studies with a GIS minor. I'll be continuing my education at Texas State as well in the Geography MS master's program fall of 2025. I've gained hands-on experience through fieldwork during my study abroad trip in the Yukon, Canada, in 2024, working with the local government in natural resources. Presented my research at the PANGEA academic conference "Protecting the Appalachian Goliath: A GIS-Based Investigation for habitat suitability of Hellbenders within the Great Smoky Mountains National Park," which explored how stream order, soil type, elevation, and rainfall influence Hellbender habitat. I also currently intern at Trout Unlimited, where I manage the TU Costa 5 Rivers college program that combines fly fishing and conservation with outreach through community events like rendezvous, river clean-ups, and fly fishing clinics. This summer, I'll be in Valles Caldera National Preserve, New Mexico, as a Fish and Feathers intern, where I'll be working directly with park rangers as well as staff, teaching fly fishing clinics, tankara, and birding. I also love reptiles and amphibians, and hope to work in some form of conservation in the future! In my free time, I love to fly fish, hike, and generally be outside. Excited to mix my passion for environmental science and natural resources with outreach in as many ways as possible! Contact: Email

Student 2

Audrey Hurtado

I am currently a senior at TXST and I will be graduating this spring with a major in Physical Geography minors in Geology and GIS. I was born and raised in Austin, Texas but my family is from Guatemala. My dream job is to be a volcanologist, I love volcanoes! My love for volcanoes started when I would visit Guatemala as a kid and always be amazed by the big volcanoes they have over there. I have done numerous projects and papers over volcanoes and hope to study them one day. I plan on getting my masters in Geology in the future. Apart from school I enjoy hobbies such as crocheting and doing nail art. Contact: Email

Student 3

Joshua Faircloth

I am a senior at Texas State University working towards my Bachelors’ in Geographic Information Science with a minor in Sustainability Studies. I have 2 years of direct GIS experience through a multitude of projects, many of which have a focus on sustainable urban growth and development, which is a particular passion of mine. My hope is to work for the local city government out of college to help apply my GIS skillset to more sustainable population growth in Texas, especially in the ever growing I-35 corridor between Austin and San Antonio. Outside of sustainability I am also interested in the application of GIS for statistical analysis, environmental concerns, and disease outbreak analysis and management. Outside of school I enjoy reading, listening to music, playing video games, and being outdoors with my girlfriend and two dogs. Contact: Email

Student 4

Evan Riojas

I am a senior at Texas State University working towards my Bachelors in Geographic Information Science with a double minor in computer science and military science. GIS has always been a passion of mine, learning more about the world we are in. I was born and raised in Schertz, Texas, with my father being the one to introduce me to GIS since he works for SAPD as a data scientist. Since the introduction I’ve done many projects, from helping a PhD friend to GPS, finally culminating to digitization for the City of New Braunfels. Outside of school I enjoy video games and hanging out with my church college group. Contact: Email
