Community Insight Mapping: Unveling Socio-Economic Dynamics For Informed Decision-making in San Marcos, TX

Summary
The purpose of this project was to provide the City of San Marcos with information products that can be used as a tool for allocating and applying for financial grants. Specifically, we produced 20 maps that cover several burdens that areas in San Marcos experience. Policymakers can use these maps to make informed decisions on where to distribute financial grants across the city. To do this, data from the Climate and Economic Justice Screening tool was used to identify census tracts that are considered burdened. To be considered burdened, a census tract must fall into the upper 90th percentile or higher as compared to the national average for a specific burden category. The data was displayed using ArcGIS Pro, and we were able to identify census tracts that fall into the burdened category for each socioeconomic burden.
