Lockhart, Texas is a city expected to experience rapid, significant growth over these next few years with the construction of State Highway 130. The construction of this interactive, three-dimensional model of the city will help drive this potential expected growth into realized expansion. It highlights the downtown area of Lockhart in a way that will attract future residents and business owners to the city. This three-dimensional model is beneficial to the historic preservation of the downtown heritage, showcasing historic businesses and murals in the city. The methodology we have used incorporates free and easy to use software in a way that can easily be repeated by City of Lockhart employees. Overall, this three dimensional model of the downtown area can assist Lockhart in its goal to draw attention from businesses, tourists, and future residents to the unique city of Lockhart, Texas.
The 3 Dimensional GeoVisualization SQUAD has provided the City of Lockhart with a high quality, accurate representation of Lockhart that surpasses the quality of similar models of neighboring cities. After many hours spent developing this 3D model, we have successfully created a representation of Lockhart for the world to see. The ability for Lockhart city planners to produce detailed models will enable the city to visualize what will be the Lockhart of the future. Google SketchUp 8 (SketchUp) has been mentioned throughout the final report as being the main software used for the Lockhart model. SketchUp provided the most benefit, but also the most effort in this project. Each squad member has had a unique experience with SketchUp and therefore has learned a different skill set that has served useful in the integration phase. Within the SketchUp model, there are 10,780 edges and 3,149 faces in the model including nine square blocks of buildings. This large model successfully accomplishes the goals that the City of Lockhart has laid out for our project and presents the opportunity to build upon it for future economic development project.
