The S.M.A.R.T. team has worked with the Hill Country Alliance (HCA) to develop a map depicting areas in the Texas Hill Country with water resources that are vulnerable to expanding development. To determine vulnerability, various physical geographic features were considered: cave density, slope, soil KSAT, soil thickness, and vegetation.
The HCA is a non-profit organization committed to raising public awareness on the delicate nature of natural resources in the Texas Hill Country. With the population of this region quickly expanding, new development is inevitable and poses an immediate risk to water resources. The HCA works cooperatively with landowners, ranchers, developers, conservationists, and elected officials to promote responsible growth, preserve water quality, water supply, and natural beauty in the seventeen county Hill Country area.
