Dams across Texas are aging and not receiving the maintenance or
long-term services needed to stay up to date. Some dams, like the one
on Lake Dunlap was allowed to fail May 14, 2019 following heavy spring
rain fall. Central Texas has been infamously nick-named the “Flashflood
Alley” of North America, with its ability to have torrential rain fall
and presence of hardpacked soils or impervious surfaces, which create a flood
hazard in many places (LCRA). Research needs to be done on these
dams, especially the older ones and dams in critical hazard
situations. The purpose of this project is to develop a tool displaying
age of Central Texas dams, observing their implementation or
renovation, and any failure events.
