Abstract: The 500-yr floodplain is the floodplain that shows the boundaries of a major flood that occurs about every 500 years. Since flooding does not occur very often, most people do not think too much about flood insurance. The parcels that fall into the 500-yr flood plain are in danger of flooding if we get another event like the 1998 flood.
Purpose: The Parcels in 500-yr floodplain.lyr was created to show all the parcels of land in San Marcos, Texas that fall within the 500-yr floodplain.

Abstract: Insurance policies are common in most homes, but there are some that do not have homeowners or renters insurance. Some people cannot afford the Elevation Certificate that is necessary to apply for flood insurance. Since the city of San Marcos, Texas is located along two rivers, The Blanco and the San Marcos, that are prone to flooding this is especially important to the residents of this city.
Purpose: The Active Policies.lyr was created to show where current flood insurance policies are located as opposed to those that do not have an Insurance policy.

The tabular data needed to be joined to the parcel.shp in order to be a better visualization for the user and for analysis.

the past and the parcel that they pertain to.

Abstract: The 1998 flood was a major flood event that caused massive damage and major flooding with the 20 inches of rain that fell. This flooding event exceeded the 500-year floodplain which is where a major flood that happens about every 500-years is supposed to fall into.
Purpose: The Parcels_in_1998_or_500-year.shp was created
to show the parcels in the city of San Marcos, Texas that fall into the 500-year
floodplain and the areas flooded by the 1998 flood.

Abstract: In 1998 San Marcos, Texas was the recipient of a major flood event. The flooding caused by the 20 inches of rain that fell was extensive. So extensive was this flooding that it even went outside of the 500-year flood plain. Abstract: In 1998 San Marcos, Texas experienced an intense amount of rain that produced a large amount of flooding. This flooding exceeded even the 500 year floodplain. Many insurance claims were filed during this time; more than a normal flood should have produced. Many of these claims were also from people who had filed many times during the time they have lived at a particular address
Purpose: The purpose of the creation of the Multiple_Claims_98.shp is to show the address points have filed for multiple insurance claims following the 1998 flood.
