Rie Taniuchi, age 23, was born in Kochi, Japan. She attended a private middle and high school in Kochi after a public elementary school. In the high school, she joined the tennis team and student government organization. After the trip to Australia when she was 16 years old, she became interested in different cultures and she came to the United States of America in 2000 to attend Texas Christian University in Fort Worth after graduating from the high school. She was interested in Marketing and majored in Business in TCU. But she wanted study urban planning to become a location analyst for a retail business, so she transferred to Texas State University-San Marcos in 2001. Currently she is working on her Bachelor of Science in Urban and Regional Planning at TSUSM, and expected to graduate in December 2004. While enrolled in school, she worked for Texas Department of Agriculture and Atlas Environmental Research as a GIS intern. She will work either in Austin or in Tokyo after graduating from TSUSM, but her long term dream is to work as a location analyst for a retail business and create effective marketing strategies. Some of her hobbies are designing and making clothing, accessories, and home decorations. Also, she likes to try different types of food of different cultures, and her favorite is Greek food now.
