The subalpine zone from 2,800 to 3,800 meters contains a variety of plants including heath, various types of grassland, and even honeybees.   Heathers in this area grow quite large, usually exceeding 8 feet.   Except for hiking trails to the summits, this region is generally undisturbed by human encroachment, due to it’s inclusion in the Kilimanjaro National Park.
